Hello, my name is Mariah Pagel. I have grown up in a rural town in Iowa and am currently enrolled as a student at Drake University. I enjoy traveling, food, and fashion. I am involved in the Drake Marketing Club and have been actively participating in the Coca-Cola project. These have both been fun activities for me to participate in and I have met so many wonderful people through them. My recommendation to incoming students is to get involved with different activities on campus. This is a great way to make school more enjoyable and build connections through similar interests.
I am currently studying Public Relations and Marketing. So basically, I like using my creative and communication abilities to better the world around me. I have always really enjoyed being around people and it has always been a goal of mine to find a career that intermingles with others. I truly realized that I wanted to specialize in Public Relations during the Covid era. I found that building honest relationships with others makes a much larger impact than an individual might think. Throughout Covid, I had missed being around people and I believe that a business can succeed at a much higher rate if the public relations side is strong.
My family and friends play a large role in my life. I have been so grateful to receive so much love and support in everything I do. I think this is where I have gained the confidence to enjoy getting to know others and striving to be the best version of myself. Finding people that make you a better person and are accepting of you makes all the difference in day-to-day challenges.
My hobbies include:
Traveling- From traveling, I have been able to learn about other cultures. I have gained patience and organization skills throughout these trips. I’ve strengthened friendships and gained new relationships through being open to these experiences.
Fashion- I have always enjoyed fashion ever since I was a little girl. It’s so fun to create different combinations and find unique items to add to your closet. I loved the newly found confidence I would receive from feeling good in the clothing I wear.
Beauty- Makeup, skincare, and routines are things that come to mind when I think of beauty. Recently I have come to the conclusion that beauty does come from within and can actually change based on how I am feeling. When I am feeling overwhelmed or stressed, my face/body shows signs of negativity. On the other hand, when I am feeling happy or content, my face and body show signs of positivity. It’s interesting that feelings can play a role in how you look. I have made it a priority to seek inner beauty and the rest will come. I still enjoy playing with makeup and testing out new skincare but beauty comes in all forms.
Food- I love cooking and baking. I love trying out new restaurants and enjoying classic favorites. I have realized that food can bring people together. Baking cookies for someone as a thinking of you gift or cooking a meal for a family in need can make someone feel special. Joining old friends together at your favorite restaurant or combining new friends at a new ice cream shop is a great way to stay in touch.
Health- Mental and physical health go hand and hand. I have started to prioritize both of these and it’s made a large impact on my life. Just by doing a little something for yourself every day! Physical health doesn’t always have to be running a marathon, it can be as simple as going on a walk or stretching after a long day. Mental health can be saying no when needed and taking breaks if you’re too overwhelmed. I have found that taking a step back, drinking water, or calling a friend can almost immediately make me feel better. It’s very important to know that you never are alone.
I used to always struggle to explain the things I liked to do or find the best way to explain myself but I have truly grown as a person when I realized why I enjoyed these hobbies and found these passions. I love the way all of these things make me feel or how they might make others feel. Your hobbies and passions are unique to you, all that’s left is to find them!
Let’s stay connected! Faw away? Close by? No problem!
