What is more, fun than indulging in carbs and delicious barbeque? That’s the question I asked Tori Oliver and Lily Eckenrode. To my surprise, my friends agreed that it sounded like fun to eat our body weight in fries and brisket. We signed up our team of three for the small price of $10.00 to compete against other hungry students for the chance to win (3) $25.00 gift cards to Jethro’s.
The Emmenecker challenge is made up of all the favorite foods of the former Drake University basketball star, Adam Emmenecker.
The eating challenge is a 4-pound sandwich consisting of a cheddar cheeseburger, bacon, brisket, fried cheese, buffalo chicken tenders, and a pork tenderloin smothered in a white cheddar cheese sauce and topped off with a spicy pickle and a pound of waffle fries. Oh, and you only have 15 minutes to complete it.
Jethro’s has had countless food lovers attempt the challenge but very few can overcome the daunting task. Our goal was to join the wall of fame and complete the challenge.
“I’m ready, we are ready. I’ve been training in Hubble and our team has what it takes to outeat any competition in our way,” said Lily Eckenrode, a member of the Women vs. Food team.
SAA has organized the interactive event of getting students to test their stomachs against the food challenge. The event had taken place on April 11th, from 5:30-7 p.m. in Parents Hall.
April 11th came in a hurry and our team was hungry for war. We proudly walked into the room and were greeted with the delicious smell of barbeque. Our team had our fan club there to support us, one of our fans was the famous bulldog, Griff.
Each team was announced and it was off to the races. Our team was pumped and ready to go!
3.. 2.. 1.. GO!
Our team started off strong and had a steady flow for the first 10 minutes. Unfortunately our teammate, Tori fell under. Lily and I tried our best but it wasn’t enough as the clock ticked to the final seconds.
Today food won.
